November 14, 2024 at the Community Farm

This past Wednesday we focused on Old Pasture. Kacee, Karen and Nigel cut and mulched the two dahlia beds.. We used old hay and leaves. The repaired garden carts came in very handy! Our neighbor, Mike VanRiper, delivered a round bale of straw and he and Nigel rolled it through the garden gate!

I want to give a shout-out to Nigel who has been coming out twice a week to help put the garden to bed. Molly McMullen came to show the farm to a new applicant at the Health Center and Lila showed them all around! Saturday we will finish mulching Kildeer and Old Pasture (Carolyn is on the hunt for more cardboard). We all took home an arm full of greens from Old Pasture!

Projects for this coming Saturday 11/16

  • compost Kildeer and Old Pasture
  • finish garden carts
  • mulch kanna lilies for winter
  • consult on repair of wall and gate in cow stalls

Ongoing Projects:

  • sharpen and oil tools (we need training)
  • pickup scrap metal and store posts
  • repair green house and cold frames
  • clean out barn gutters
  • animal fencing
  • pond reconstruction
  • rebuild chicken coop
  • create a mycelium bed

This is a fence Robbin and I took down from around Kildeer. The brown blob is a praying mantis cocoon! It’s a good sign. It will hatch in the spring and find its way back into the fields.
