December 10, 2024 – Community Farm Work Day

Dear fellow farm members,

The farm has shifted into winter mode and still there is always something to do! Work days continue for those who want to come out. Last saturday Karen, Abby and Hanna prepared cardboard in the greenhouse. Terry trained Pete on watering the animals and moving round bales into the outdoor feeder. Then Pete mucked out stalls for the first time!

There are seed beans in the greenhouse that need processing Anyone willing to help is welcome to work in the greenhouse which, on a sunny day is tolerably warm. You are also welcome to take a bagful and work at home. There are bags below the beans. The processing involves getting the beans out of their pods and sorting out any which don’t look healthy. The pods and stems and nonfunctional beans can come back to the farm as compost. The dry beans should come back to the farm as seed in very dry glass jars with secure lids. You can leave them on the distribution table. Thank you to anyone who can help with this!

Creature Caroling: Monday, December 23, 3:30-4:30

We gather near the stalls in the animal barn. Feel free to bring treats for the animals – carrots, apples, leafy greens (stop by Old Pasture to pick some kale) Dress for the weather! Karen will bring caroling books with a variety of seasonal songs. All are welcome!

Stocking Stuffers

Anne Elder wrote a children’s book about animals on the farm that we .

still have many copies of to sell. It makes a lovely little gift for the holiday. $10 each, 2 for $18. You can pick them up from Linda Teaman in Ann Arbor by emailing her at communityfarminfo@gmail.com, or you can get one at the farm.

Projects for this wednesday 12/11

  • prep cardboard
  • winter animal care
  • compost Old Pasture
  • squashed barn drain pipe
  • Steering committee meeting, 2pm (in person at the farm or zoom)

If you plan to come out, it helps if you rsvp.

If it’s freezing temps and icy out, it is wise to wear cleats over your shoes.
