December 12, 2024 – Community Farm Work Day
Dear fellow farm members,
Wednesday was a good day to compost Old Pasture.Thank you Terry and Nigel! Perhaps we can do more on saturday. We discovered the electric tractor does not like cold weather. Margarete and Karen prepared cardboard. Beans with instructions are in the greenhouse for anyone to take and process for planting in the summer. Abby brought Lync, the cat, to the vet for his regular checkup and it turns out he has a cracked tooth that needs immediate attention. Thank you Abby for taking care of Lync! Karen and Lucia picked Russian kale to sell at Agricole in Chelsea. We might have a winter cash crop!

We have an awesome animal care team that covers weekly chores. Thank you Caitlin, Pete, Nigel, and Kari! We had a short steering committee meeting. We will take a break and resume in January.
Projects for this saturday 12/14
- prep cardboard
- winter animal care
- compost Old Pasture *weather permitting)
- Check out squashed barn drain pipe
We need someone who can pick up a pond liner for the fountain. This means coming to the farm to get the one that is too small and driving to Grass Roots Pond And Garden in New Boston to exchange it for a larger one: https://www.grassrootspondandgarden.com Contact me (reply to this email) if you think you could do this.
Creature Caroling: Monday, December 23, 3:30-4:30
We gather near the stalls in the animal barn. Feel free to bring treats for the animals – carrots, apples, leafy greens (stop by Old Pasture to pick some kale) Dress for the weather! Karen will bring caroling books with a variety of seasonal songs. All are welcome!
Stocking Stuffers
Anne Elder wrote a children’s book about animals on the farm that we still have many copies of to sell. It makes a lovely little gift for the holiday. $10 each, 2 for $18. You can pick them up from Linda Teaman in Ann Arbor by emailing her at communit…@gmail.com, or there is a box of them (and a donation jar) on the distribution table at the farm.
