January 6, 2025 – Community Farm Work Day

Dear fellow farm members and friends,

Last Tuesday on new year’s eve we met to grind gold, frankincense and myrrh into a sticky paste. On Sunday we met at the farm to stir the paste into a liquid biodynamic preparation. Karen, Kacee, Peter, Dolores, Nigel, Gaia, Mateo, and Lucia gathered  around the firepit and then divided into 4 groups to walk along the perimeter of the farm. We sprinkled and sprayed the preparation with pine boughs as we walked through the wintery landscape, along deer trails that guided us through brush. It is good to walk the land.

Kacee came across a sprawling crop of mushrooms along the back of the property. We welcome the new sun cycle of the year, and set some intentions for the farm this coming year. Karen, Kacee, Lucia, and Peter completed the seed list in order to begin purchasing.

Work days will resume as soon as weather permits. Meanwhile, we are grateful to the winter animal care team that shows up every day to wrestle with frozen hoses and dead tractor batteries. Thank you Terry, Pete, Caitlin, Nigel, and Kari!

Happy 2025 to everyone. You know the days are getting longer and the sunlight is returning when the chickens start laying again in the middle of a January freeze!

Warmly,

Lucia
